Living on the go with an RV

For most Americans, life in the city can prove to be stressful at times. Hectic work schedules, heavy traffic on the streets, a sea of people wherever you go, these can all be very taxing on your health not to mention your mental and emotional states. Sometimes you just need to take a break from all of it; pack your things and just revisit and enjoy nature at its best. Sure you can board the next plane and hole yourself in in some swanky hotel, but there is another option out there – something that brings you closer to nature along with the simplicity of life at home. Recreational vehicles are your best bet if you’re the type of person to go on this kind of adventure. Simply put, RVs refer to any vehicle that has been equipped with living space and other amenities found in a typical home such as a kitchen, a bathroom, and a bedroom. As such it gives them the free reign to be used for almost any planned road activity such as leisure trips, vacations, or camping and for some even act as a set up for full-time living.

Recreational vehicles usually get classified into two general groups, either they are motorized or are towed. From these general types, several sizes of RVs are available, which you can choose from depending on the size of your family, the places you will travel to, your price range, and the basic amenities you want in your RV. The first group, motorized RVs, come in three different classes: Class A motorhomes, Class B motorhomes, and Class C motorhomes. These differ in the kind of chassis they are built on and have their corresponding pros and cons. Class A motorhomes are built on either a bus or a truck chassis and are therefore large in nature. These offer freedom in living space and a feeling of self containment because you can practically add any feature you want because of the large area that it has. However, buses tend to be hard to maneuver and difficult to take anywhere. For a modest living space, you can look at Class B motorhomes also known as camper vans, which began in popularity in 60s and 70s, but still remain fairly popular today especially seniors who don’t want the hassle of driving anything too big. These vans are economical and easy to take anywhere, but have smaller living and storage spaces. The third class of motorhomes fuses the basic features of the first two classes. Known as cutaway van chassis, these RVs are built on a truck chassis with the addition of a cab section, which is usually from a van giving the look of a “cab-over” profile. These are great for families because it offers a larger space than camper vans while at the same time being economical.

If you want to further cut costs however, you can avail of towable RVs, which from their name are towed by a car, an SUV, or a pick-up truck. Towable Rvs come in four different classes depending on their size. Travel trailers make up the first class and are actually the most popular ranking number one in RV sales. This popularity can probably be attributed to its great flexibility and versatility because travel trailers can be as small as 10 feet long or as big as 35 feet long depending on the amount of space you need. Usually, travel trailers include features such as cooking facilities, air conditioning, a toilet, shower, water tank, pull out beds, gas supply, and electrical system, along with the capacity to sleep up to six people depending on the floor plan and size. The price ranges from $10,000 - $100,000. If you want something less expensive with still the basic amenities, you can go for folding camping trailers, which are the most inexpensive RVs with the price starting at $4000 reaching up to $25,000. Other midpriced RVs include Truck campers, which is simply a camper body loaded over the bed of a standard pickup truck and Fifth-wheel trailers, which are similar to large travel trailers except for the added box that extends over the tow vehicle and a horizontal plate that rests on the tow vehicle for support. These RVs cost from $3000 to $150,000 and offer the basic needs such as a cooking facility, toilet, bath, refrigerator, heating, air conditioning, water tanks, and gas supply.

With the different kinds of RVs available for any kind of budget and features desired, you can be assured that venturing out into a trip will become less of a hassle because the comforts of home are on the ride with you.
