Whoever said one needs to own a house or rent an apartment to enjoy some good, comfortable living space? Indeed, one does not need so. Even automobiles can provide that. Take, for instance, the recreational vehicles. These vehicles are more popularly known as RV’s in the US, specifically, in North America.

The recreational vehicles typically have a space used as a kitchen, a space used for bathroom, a space used for living room and another space used for bedroom. These features made the RV’s become known as camper vans or simply, caravans. Most RV’s are used either for short-term camping to literally, long-term living. While they can be used as a mobile home, RV’s or motorhomes are distinguished from mobile homes. The RV’s are usually parked in trailer cars usually reserved for mobile homes.

The RV’s are ideally used for camping, vacation and other leisure activities. It ahs the amenities that can provide the physical comfort almost similar with what is experienced in one’s own home. Individuals or families interested in using the RV’s for short-term camping can rent the vehicle from rental car companies located in many cities in the US, as well as the major tourist locations in the country.

Recreational vehicles have a ling and very interesting history. These vehicles were descendants to the traditional wagons commonly used by circus men in France in 1820. In the 1850’s, Gypsies have started living in caravans. The traditional vehicle closely resembling the modern RV’s was first introduced in North America in 1745. It was a covered, well set up wagon. This is the first vehicle called as a caravan because of its features showcasing the home’s basic amenities.

The first modern RV’s were manufactured in the Australia around 1920’s. This was also the time when Australian car companies started to manufacture trailer trucks. The first vehicles were typically 6.1 meters or 20 feet long. They also had wheels made of wood and small solid rubber tires.

In the US, the manufacture of modern R’s started in the 1920’s through the 1930’s. This time also coincided with the introduction of the automobile cars. Round this time, backyard manufacture of house trailers also started. These were largely operations done by parents and the products were for exclusive private use, not commercialized. The history of mobile homes and recreational vehicles is largely intertwined, without any distinguishing marks that would separate the two products instead of considering them as one and the same. In the 1950’s, however, the mobile home manufacture grew large enough to form its own industry. Thus, it was only during the 1950’s that the RV’s were technically and formally considered to be apart from the mobile home vehicles.

There are different types of recreational vehicles. Among these is the Class A motorhome. This type is constructed using a specifically designed chassis for motorhomes or a chassis used for a minibus.

Some RV makers also convert buses into recreational vehicles. This is perhaps the largest motorhome available. Inside the vehicle of this type can be found luxurious components. Also available is the Class B campervan. These are either designed as conventional vans or built with a raised roof feature. While in the US campervans and motorhomes are the same, in Australia, they are different. Australian campervans are built using large van that can be as big as a truck frame. Vehicles of this type typically weigh 4500 kilograms and span up to 6.4meters. Car companies that popularly make this type of recreation vehicles include Nissan, Toyota and Isuzu. The last type is called the Class C motorhome. These vehicles are suaully built using the Ford E450 engine, cab and chassis. These vehicles, also known as Luton body in the United Kingdom, have an entertainment area.

Aside from the size, there are also different recreation vehicles according to usage. For individuals who frequently hunt, a favorite is the truck camper. This vehicle has an open bed that is attached to the unit of a pick up truck. This is very popular in North America. For towing vehicles, the most suitable recreational vehicle to use is the so-called pop up camper. These vehicles are lightweight and they also have tent walls which are collapsible when towing or when put in the storage. For people who would love to spend their vacation on a recreational vehicle will love the Park model. This is a vehicle that spans from 35 to 45 feet. This vehicle is specifically designed for ark camping. The great thing about it is that it can be moved quite easily from one place to another.
